As an individual, I find peace in structure that is time based. Living for deadlines, limits, goals, etc, I challenge the question when by focusing my artistic practice around methods of distorting and creating metaphors for time through the use of paint. As a loose medium, I enjoy the challenge of providing a structure for paint. Within these types contradictions is where I find resolution in my work.
I play on the uncertainty captured within a single canvas, with figurative creations that confront the moment between the physical act of falling or jumping, as well as small multi-paneled works that disrupt notions of sequence. Inspired by the remote Burren as a place that has forced me to slow down almost to the point of moving backwards, sequential terms like past, present and future hold new meaning. My images wrestle with the in between spaces of presence and absence, vulnerability and resistance, freedom and control.
Overall my works are concerned with the Human Condition and its cyclical nature. I strive to find a place where our own personal narrative can exist and speak of a grand narrative that acts as an empowering reminder of our capabilities despite the ephemeral nature that is life.
